3.1 Phillip Lim AW13 Final walk

So you know how most of the shows in New York all seemed to feature interchangeableseparatesthat could pretty much all be switched from one [insert big name]’s catwalk to the next without visibly affecting the general onda on show? Rigid high boots, textured sweatshirts, a plethora of beanies, androgynous pant-suits, loose-fit layers, and leather in every shape and form were basically runway fixtures this season. Aside from the odd flash of dyed-fur, or say, ahot fushia embroidered gown, the models almostneedn’thave bothered changing. OK, perhaps a little toocynical. Put it this way: the general trend? Wearable, wearable, wearable. That’s what the recession does to fashion. Not a terribly bad thing for the commuter (yes, he’s back!), but a sad state of affairs for creativity capital-C.

And where is Ghesquiere when you need him, eh? Hopefully setting up an eponymous something, n’est ce pas. Meanwhile, aesthetic mavericks Miuccia, Marc and Margiela better bring it next week, as the Mowers of this world will need fodder if they are to translate the AW13 mood into words…

But then we have Lim. I am not normally one to embrace Zoeisms, but ohemjeee I DIE. Need EVERYTHING!!! This is by far and away my favourite collection for fall. It may be playing up to all the urban-meets-biker-chic clichés of the hour, but see if I care. Effortful nonchalance with just the right amount of attitude. Just gimme some patchwork leather, a pink coat, and a selection of thigh high sandals, and we’ll just have to hope my French genes can do the rest. Don’t make me wear ahelmet, though. My hair may be born ‘n bred to look effortless (read messy), but there’s only so much it can take.

  • Stefania

Gorgeous collection I like a lot the bags.

  • Eva

Get what you mean by the similarity between shows all though they all have their individual eye-catchers. I especially noticed the similarity when I saw the photos from Mens Fashionweek on The Sartorialist. All those coats and all the same. So I'm kind of happy with the little differences I see between the women's collections. Philip Lim and Burberry are my favorites so far, but Burberry is not that refreshing as Phillip Lim. This show is just beyond amazing! xx

WOW that really is what I call swag! Love those leather boots and the pinstripe details!

Ps: I started a running blog with my best friend.

i don't think your writing makes sense, too many euphemisms and hyperlinks!

PS that's not how you spell born n bred

    • Camille

      Then why bother reading?

    • Anonymous

because your style is very good and i like your photography…

i don't dislike your blog in fact i read it alot it's just your writing, it gets on my nerves when all i want to know is basic things like why, when and where… and to find out all that i have to filter through the euphemisms and hyperlinks… it's actually very irritating.

kinda similiar to man repeller… great content fashion and style wise just terrible, unhumerous, unwitty writing. the only blog that combines genuinly original writing and fashion is fashiontoast and even then it can get a little too much.

    • Camille

I appreciate (a lot) compliments about style and photography.

We are clearly going to have to agree to disagree because MR is by far and away my favourite blog because of her writing! I find blogs who just paraphrase 'what I'm wearing bla bla bla' day after day very bland (unless the aesthetic is powerful enough to stand on its own – like Mija for example).
I'm well aware my writing is far from perfect, then again, you know what they say .. practice, practice, practice. You see, I aspire to become a journalist. Blogging is just the means, not the end..

All the NY brands are merging into one…and a lot of the London/Paris brands seem to be going the same way too. Maybe we're just finding the "look" for this decade? I always wonder how people will look back in twenty years and define the way we dress today.

  • Maud Schellekens

    Awesome pictures!

Oui! Cette collection est tellement parfaite, et surtout très portable comme tu le dis. J'adore les couleurs et le superpositions, chaque pièce est enviable, bien que je me demande si elles fonctionneraient aussi bien seules… je crois que oui!
