Wang for Balenciaga

Balenciaga Fall-Winter 2013-2014 Campaign

The first image of Alexander Wang's inaugural Balenciaga campaign was revealed yesterday, and I'm liking what I (don't really) see. Pictured, Kristen McMenamy's backside, clad in what was one of his first ever looks for the illustrious French maison (iconic was the word that sprang to mind, but Intelligent Life magazine has put me on detox) and a bold new logo (one that is perhaps a little overwhelming considering that they have slapped it bang in the middle, despite the fact everything else seems to play by suggestion). Then again, new man, new rules.

I for one was impressed by his sleek debut collection, especially the cracked marble patterns, and am excited to see the rest of the fall story. If this image is anything to go by, I'm guessing the focus will be on the clothes themselves and portray strong emotions - that clenched fist certainly speaks louder than a facial expression. I'm intrigued. What do you think?

  1. This ad barely shows a thing, but somehow it is does have or show a clear identity. I'm also very curious to see more

  7. I'm a fan. The suggestiveness lets you create your own interpretation of what Wang's Balenciaga is about. I agree the clenched fist and turned body say more then any model's face, even if it is Kristen McMenamy, ever could. I always got the impression from Wang's namesake label that the focus was always on the clothes and not the body wearing them. I appreciate that type of advertising, so I'm looking forward to more from the new Balenciaga!

  10. Clenched fist is brilliant.

I myself quite like the contrast between the suggestive / subtle nature of the photograph and the stark white brand name.

I want to see inside her head.

  13. I like it - though I want to point out that her fist isn't clenched. It's wrapped around a doorknob. She's opening the door and peeking through it...

Or perhaps she really does have a clenched fist and I'm seeing it wrong...

    Either way I'm intrigued!
