I have yet to get my head round the austere baroque prints, cocoon-shaped mini twinsets and satiny pastel-hued prom dresses that stomped down the Balenciaga runway on Thursday - but that is not to say the American-in-Paris' second offering left me unimpressed.
Predictably enough, I have fallen for the sleeker, more pared-back silhouettes - but hey, I'm always going to show a stronger appreciation for pieces I would be willing (/thrilled) to incorporate into my own wardrobe (hefty price tag excluded). And boy would I kill for one of those leggy tux dresses! The wonderfully simple button detailing, in particular, is ... simply wonderful.
Wang has always been one to fuel my shoe fetish, and his work for the French maison is no exception. Capital-L loved the sequel to last season's arousing pumps (the ones with a single thong drawn through the toes): provocative flip-flop-esque sling slingbacks and cutout sandals.
All in all, and in light of today's farewells, maybe Nicolas' departure wasn't such a tragedy. That is, if we are to hear news of an exciting new tenure for him at one of the most prestigious houses of them all. Fingers crossed.
