City staples

So yeah, black continues to rule on this side of the rainbow. I don't think summer has ever been met with such a resistance to sorbet colours and happy prints. What can I say.

Chalk lines

So here goes, my first pinstripe of the season. Ruffles and chalk lines. Now there's an optical illusion I'll take any day. Any day this season, that is. Gotta run though: I'm giving a trend report to a real boardroom this morning, and I'm pretty sure they will be expecting more than a personal endorsement of Savile Row happenings, however current those may be.

Slip-ping into things

The day slip - Freya Dalsjø SS14 / Louis Vuitton FW13
(Ph. Freya Dalsjø SS14 / Louis Vuitton FW13)

I have spent the better part of the morning trawling the Victoria Secret website - yes, you read that right;  there is a first time for everything it seems (angels and I don't mix in the same circles, alas) - in search for the perfect satin slip. Thing is, Zara is yet to receive it's own take (/rip off) on the trend, but I'm already in the mood for boudoir dressing (I blame Victoria Beckham).

As far as I can see, actual lingerie may well be the way forward if I am to leave my abode in little more than satin and lace, as seen at Freya Dalsjø and Louis Vuitton, before summer bids farewell. Mind you, a heavy coat only renders the look sexier and is perhaps the answer to avoid troublesome glares from passers-by. Patience is a virtue..

Back to basics

You can tell from this outfit that both fashion month and fall are looming. Until both happenings are upon us, my sartorial formula will strictly consist of a large dollop of comfort (read: easy flats and sloppy tees) and as little layers as the end of summer temperatures will allow. Effortlessness at its most sincere - and incidentally, my favorite kind of getup. I'm sure most of you would agree.

Jennyfer loves NY (and Paris)

COTR for Jennyfer fw13
(Ph. me)

The reason I'm currently cosied up in the the cutest hotel in town (despite my home being only a few metro stops away), and enjoying VIP access to the end of summer music fest Rock en Seine (hashtag sorry I'm not sorry), is because my lovely friends from Jennyfer thought it would be a nice way to celebrate the release of our Fall-Winter campaign - and who am I to disagree? That, plus the fact they are opening two new stores in NY, one in Crossgates and one in Sangertown.

So for those who won't have the pleasure of bumping into my blown up self in the store window display (gulp), I thought I would make it official and share the fruit of our collaboration. The campaign was styled by yours truly, using pieces from their new collection. Top of my shopping list: the plaid shirts and perfect-fit jeans. Hope you like.

Hotel du temps

(Ph. me)

After a short but sweet stop by Bruxelles yesterday, to shoot my very first capsule collection (more on that very soon i promise - in the meantime you can have a peek at things to come on Instagram), I am now in Paris for the weekend. I have set up camp at the charming Hotel du Temps on rue de Montholon, as my family is currently away sunning themselves in the South, and Jennyfer kindly offered to put me up for a few days, as I will be covering Rock en Seine for them. Tourist in my own city? Absolutely, and loving it. Stay tuned for festival fun. Happy Friday les amis.

Twinkle toes

Enjoying the last few days of summer in my easy yet slightly dramatic uniform of summer blacks. This is far less contradictory than meets the eye, given my impending intention to embrace all things pink and plaid as soon as temperatures drop. Plus let's face it, black is a good colour to soak up the underwhelming heat - this island sure ain't tropical! On another note, thank you so much for all the birthday wishes, you guys really made my day. Happy monday.

Tartan express

Ganni plaid coat

You can blame Karl. Checks in every permutation are to pervade our cold-weather wardrobes this fall, since Celine, Stella McCartney and Preen all went mad for the stuff following the Scottish extravaganza orchestrated by the Kaiser for his Metiers d'Art show back in March. This scandinavian take on the traditional cloth will be my ticket for the Tartan Express. All aboard!

Buttoned down

I try, to the best of my ability, not to dress like the nerd that I am inside. For instance, under normal circumstances, I would never button down my blazer, preferring either to effortfully drape it, as a carefree fashion editor might as she runs from show to show (or so we like to think we are referencing, when really we are just being affected); or to shrug it over an otherwise casual getup to capture the French uniform vibe.  But in doing so, I have neglected an army of possibilities, including the formal upturn as I like to call it, as pictured above. Teamed like this, with a flirty skirt and the highest heels in my life, I felt considerably hauter (/hotter?) than usual - pun not intended - despite minimal (it's all relative in my book) skin exposure.
