A family affair

Victoria Beckham may have come a long way from her Spice World days, but the message she wishes to send to women around the world remains much the same. For her second full-scale runway show, the first her beloved husband actually attended in person (snapping away like a true fan and charming Anna Wintour from his front row seat might I add), VB's ultra-feminine silhouettes strutted down the runway oozing pure girl power. Her two-toned, figure-hugging dresses, in neutral shades of forest green, black and taupe, with the occasional pop of red, perfectly balanced the demure, under-the-knee cuts, showcasing what Victoria seems to know best: simple, sexy and strong. But her now signature looks were not remotely mere copies of last seasons offerings in different panels of colour. A lot more was on show. Flat biker boots for one. Statement collars for another. And this year, her inspiration for the immaculate VB silhouette clearly came from much closer to home, since the models also sported beanie hats and knit socks. It looks like attending all those football matches with her boys wasn't such a waste of time. And not to forget the newest addition to the family, the girls carried an ‘unbelievably lightweight’ number, ‘like a feather, just like her daughter!’: an oversized tote christened the Harper. It clearly was, as Victoria laughed backstage after the show, "a family affair". An affair we hope to find out much more about! Posh's reign may just have begun.

Victoria Beckham a indiscutablement parcouru un long chemin depuis son époque Spice Girl, mais le message qu'elle souhaite faire passer aux femmes demeure inchangé. Pour son deuxième défilé à grande échelle, le tout premier auquel son mari assiste en personne (aperçu au premier rang, appareil photo en main, parfaitement charmant avec sa voisine Anna Wintour, tout sourire à ses côtés), les silhouttes ultra-féminine de VB respiraient le girl power. Les robes bi-colores en dessous du genou, aux tons neutres vert forêt, noir ou taupe, avec l'occasionnelle apparition du rouge, parfaitement équilibrées grâce à leur coupe près du corps ont encore une fois mis en valeur ce que Victoria fait de mieux: une allure simple, forte et sexy. Mais attention, ce look qui est devenu sa marque de fabrique n'est pas sans évolution par rapport à ses sept précédentes collections. Cette saison souhaite notamment la bienvenue aux cols en python et aux boots motardes (plates, le croirez-vous?). Pour sa silhouette tirée à quatre épingles, Victoria semble avoir puisé son inspiration dans son propre quotidien: les mannequins arboraient également calottes et chaussettes hautes, à l'image des tenues sportives de ses garçons. Comme quoi tous ces matchs de foot n'étaient pas une perte de temps! Et pour ne pas oublier la petite dernière, les modèles portaient un sac oversized "incroyablement léger, comme une plume, tout comme sa fille", baptisé le Harper. La collection était franchement "une affaire de famille" a dit en rigolant Victoria après le show. Une affaire que l'on va décidément suivre de près. Bravo.

Frozen Tuileries

Remember this? Well it looks like I too have jumped onto the baseball cap bandwagon. And you know how some trends, like harem pants, boyfriend jeans or clashing prints are total man repellers? Well apparently wearing a cap is the exact opposite. I will even go so far as to say that in an unprecedented turn of events, my male entourage offered a far more warm welcome to my newest wardrobe addition than my girlfriends, who quite frankly thought I had completely lost it. But I have to confess, despite my doubts in the shop, I am totally sold and cant wait to rock this leather bad boy's younger brother (which I also bought) in white. What say thee?

Vous vous souvenez de ça? Je me suis enfin décidée à rejoindre le mouvement pour le port de la caquette à des fins modesques. Et vous voyez comme certaines tendances, comme le harem pants, le jean boyfriend, ou le clash d'imprimés sont de vraies "repousse mâle"? Eh bien il semblerait que la casquette c'est exactement l'opposé. Je pousserai même le bouchon jusque dire que pour une fois, les hommes dans ma vie (ou pas d'ailleurs) ont tous accueilli cette nouvelle recrue les bras ouverts, le compliment aux lèvres, alors que mes copines ont carrément cru que je perdais la tête. Qu'importe, j'avoue être de mon coté, et ce malgré mes doutes au moment de l'achat, complément conquise et j'ai hâte de porter sa petite sœur, en cuir blanc. This outfit was going to be lost underneath all the layers of clothing I had piled over it to keep warm outside. But I liked its bright playfulness too much to let it go to waste so managed to brave the cold for a couple of minutes to let you get a glimpse. I absolutely love how the colours, including all the gold bling, are all wrong for this season. Been swim suit shopping today, which also is all wrong for the season. Can't wait to share my inappropriate finds! x x x

Cette tenue a failli se perdre sous toutes les couches de vêtements que j'ai empilé au dessus pour affronter le grand froid dehors. Et puis finalement dans un moment de courage inattendu, j'ai jeté mon manteau de coté. J'adore le fait que les couleurs ne sont pas du tout de saison, y compris tous les bijoux colorés. Supernatural forces or my Dutti Lovers challenge

When you buy a new piece of clothing do you, like me, find yourself quietly plotting how you are going to wear it? I always do this, and almost invariably compile imaginary outfits pairing said piece with garments that I don't actually own (yet). The first thing I thought when I bought this pencil skirt from H&M is that a clean cut black cape would complement it beautifully. Unfortunately, my beloved closet was a black cape virgin.

Will you believe it, that very afternoon (I kid you not) Massimo Dutti contated me to see if would accept the challenge of styling a black wool cape from their winter collection into my wardrobe. They must of thought I as a bit of a superstitions freak, because I replied telling them of the story of my new skirt and my cape musings that followed its purchase; "it must be fate" said I, "bring on the challenge!".

So hear goes: I paired the cape with my leather pencil skirt (inevitably), a white peter-pan collard tee worn underneath a silky polka dot blouse, feminine booties and oversized shades. The idea was to keep the look very modern, despite the retro-looking collar and coat. Thoughts?

Je ne sais pas vous, mais lorsque je m’achète une nouvelle fringue, je réfléchis automatiquement à ce avec avec quoi je vais pouvoir l'assembler. Et bien souvent, ces silhouettes imaginaires se composent à partir de pièces que je ne possède pas (encore). Lorsque je suis tombée sur cette jupe crayon en cuir chez H&M, la première chose qui m'est venue à l'esprit fut qu'elle se marierait parfaitement avec une cape toute simple noire. Malheureusement mon dressing n'avait pas encore fait la connaissance d'une cape noire.

Me croirez-vous si je vous disais que cet après-midi là, Massimo Dutti me contactait en me demandant si cela me plairait de participer à un défi mettant en jeu une cape en laine noire, le but étant de l'intégrer à ma propre garde robe. A mon avis, chez Massimo ils ont dû me prendre pour une mordue de forces occultes et surnaturelles puisque je leur ai répondu immédiatement en leur racontant mon achat de la matinée. "Cela doit être le destin", leur ai-je dit, "pari relevé".

Donc voilà le résultat: j'ai porté ma cape avec la fameuse jupe en cuir, dont j'adore la coupe crayon et la fente sexy, un top blanc à col claudine porté sous une blouse à poids, des bottines féminines et des lunettes de soleil mouche. Mon idée était de rester moderne malgré le manteau et le col rétro. Verdict?

Sugar Fix

Although I'm still very much digging the neon trend, I can't wait for spring to arrive so that I can start playing around with a much sweeter palette inspired by soft sorbet and pastel hues. It's just the sugar fix my wardrobe needs, as well as the girly touch I have been complaining as of late it is lacking.
Pair a single statement piece with clean white separates for modern sophistication, or mix and match sorbet lemon, mint and strawberry for that ultimate high fahion iconic allure. And don't forget, no pastel party is complete unless you look polished from tip to toe, so don't be shy and coat your nails in pastel as well!

Une bonne dose de pastels et de sorbets, c'est exactement l'injection édulcorée dont mon dressing a besoin en ce moment, d'autant plus au vu de mes résolutions d'adopter un look plus girly. Sans laisser de côté le néon pour autant, j'attends avec impatience l'arrivée du printemps et des bourgeons nouveaux pour pouvoir enfin jouer avec une palette plus sucrée, inspirée par des tons doux.
Complémentez une pièce forte doucement colorée avec des pièces sobres blanches pour un ensemble moderne et sophistiqué, ou mélangez carrément les sorbets citron, menthe et fraise pour une allure encore plus mode. Et n'oubliez pas, une pastel party doit se fêter de la tête aux pieds, alors ne faites pas la timide et assortissez vos ongles à votre tenue sucrée.

A lot of people ask me if my blog has influenced the way I dress. I think there is a stigma that a "blogger look" exists and in order to reach cyber-fame one must comply with that look. I could not disagree more. If you look at the bloggers who have "made-it", you will not find two alike. They all ooze individuality from every (non visible) pore and I could not thank them more for it. Just goes to show its not so much who you wear, but how you were it.

Yesterday I was scrolling back through the dark and deep archives of my blog to see how much my style has evolved since I started my own cyber-diary. Coming back to your question, my blog has changed the way I dress insofar as I take more risk, and try and to limit the number of times I wear the same outfit. I used to come up with a really cool combo, and then wear that same silhouette again and again (and then some more) until I was ready to burn all the pieces (or at least tidy them at the back of the cupboard never to be seen again). Now I try and mix things up a lot more, and especially (since this used to be a real problem with me) not only limit myself to my most recent purchases. This has actually proven really healthy since I don't get bored of individual garnments anymore and trick myself into believing I own much more stuff than I really do. Also, challenging yourself to never wear the same outfit twice (or a reasonnable amount of times) means you are more likely to put together items that you would not have thought could work as a whole. On a more negative note though, I do feel that my overall style is a bit "all-over-the-place" and that I go from being classic, to grungy, to high fashion to casual with no rime or reason, and I wish I could just be a little more consistent; I have also realised of late (and I think blogs like Tuula, Late Afternoon and 5 Inch and Up have played a massive part in this transition) that I am now ready to ditch the boyish look and become more feminine.

All in all I would say that documenting my sartorial choices on a quasi daily basis has enabled me to understand better how to play around with fashion, although I wouldn't say I'm quite there yet. Still much to learn and a lot to explore. Can't wait! How about you guys? Has your style changed a lot through time? Une question qui revient souvent à propos de mes activités de l'autre côté de l'arc-en-ciel est celle de l'influence qu'a eu mon blog sur ma manière de m'habiller au quotidien. Il existe je crois bon nombre de préjugés sur l'existence d'un “look de blogueuse” qu'il faudrait à tout prix adopter sans quoi la cyber-célébrité, Sacré Graal pour la jeune wannabe, restera un rêve lointain. Je crois qu'il faut une bonne fois pour toute faire taire ces mythes. Prenons d'ailleurs trois minutes pour observer le style des « blogueuses arrivées »: je n'en vois pas deux pareilles (ce qui explique surement pourquoi ma blogroll est si longue)! Elles débordent d'individualité et je leur suis très reconnaissante. Ce qui prouve bien que l'important ce n'est pas ce que l'on porte, mais comment on le porte.

Hier en feuilletant les archives de mon blog je me suis rendue compte à quel point mon style vestimentaire à évolué ces dernières années. Pour en revenir à votre question, mon blog a certainement influencé la manière dont je m'habille en ce qu'il m'a forcé à prendre plus de risques, et de limiter le nombre de fois où je porte la même tenue. Il y a quelques temps je me contentais réellement d'inventer une combinaison cool, puis de porter cette silhouette encore, et encore jusqu'à ce qu'elle me sorte par les yeux à tel point que les pièces élues finissaient souvent au fin fond du placard pour le reste de leur vie. Désormais j'essaie de varier les plaisirs, et surtout (puisque cela a longtemps été un de mes soucis) ne plus me contenter seulement de mes derniers achats pour composer mes looks. Ceci s'est d'ailleurs révélé très sain puisqu'aujourd'hui je me lasse vraiment moins facilement de chaque vêtement, et me laisse imaginer que je possède plus de choses. Par ailleurs, se mettre au défi de ne pas porter une tenue plus d'une fois ou deux m'a forcé à marier ensemble des pièces qui n'étaient pas le couple évident, et ainsi de « découvrir » des tenues plus originales. En revanche, sur une note plus négative, j'ai l'impression que mon style reste un peu fouillis puisque je passe du classique, au grungy en passant par le néo-romantique et le sportswear-chic sans crier gare. J'aimerais vraiment apprendre à être plus cohérente. J'ai également réalisé dernièrement que j'etais enfin prête à laisser derrière moi mon côté vraiment boyish androgyne pour devenir plus féminine; ma lecture quotidienne de mes blogs coups de coeur Tuula, Late Afternoon et 5 Inch and Up y est surement pour quelque chose.

Bref, tout ça pour dire que de documenter journalièrement mes choix vestimentaire m'a réellement permis d'explorer tout un tas de tendance que j'aurais surement laisser filer sinon, et d'apprendre à jouer avec la mode. Mais il me reste encore plein de choses à maitriser! J'ai hate. Et vous, trouvez vous que votre style a beaucoup évolué au cours des années? Quels sont les éléments extérieurs qui influencent cette évolution? Votre blog a t-il aussi changé votre manière d'aborder la création de vos tenues?
ps: il est vrai cette tenue n'a rien d'orignal, simplement le mérite de tenir très chaud en ce mois de janvier devenu très frisquet !

9. Foreign goods: my lovely mummy coming to visit me in London and not forgetting to bring along some essential much desired French goodies (Ba&sh leather dress, Isabel Marant Dicker boots & French Elle and Grazia).

What this outfit lacks in boldness and bling, it certainly makes up for in timelessness and effortlessness (boy, those two put together are quite a mouthful). After going all out yesterday in double leather, flashy neon and arm candy, I craved the clean simplicity which can only be obtained by wearing some good old skinny jeans and a plain white pullover. And luckily I now have just the shoes to tie this easy outfit together. Oh yes they are. My very own Dicker boots. My first proper Isabel Marant purchase (believe me, there would be more if someone would just provide the funding). And let me just say, not an easy one either. After deciding that I could not live without these in my wardrobe for another day, I proceeded to visit the nearest Isabel Marant store (good excuse to jet off to Paris for the week-end), but did not fall for any of the new season colours. Well apparently I am just as persevering as I am stubborn and obsessional, because here they are: one brand new pair of AW 2010 taupe Dickers in a size 7. A true miracle. Or fate. Whatever, as you can imagine these bad boys will be showing their faces a whole lot more around here, so I really hope you like them as much as I do. Gotta dash, hair appointment. More tomorrow. x x x

Less is more sera ma devise du jour. Le manque d'audace de cette tenue est largement compensé par sa qualité indubitablement intemporelle. Après avoir tout donné hier en double cuir, néon flashy et fiesta de bling, j'avais besoin aujourd'hui d'un style épuré auquel seul un bon vieux slim associé à un pullover blanc pouvait subvenir. Et par chance, j'avais justement les chaussures parfaites pour mettre la touche finale à ce look facile. Oui ce sont bien elles. Les dickers Isabel Marant, rien que pour moi! Certaines sauront déjà à quel point ces merveilles furent dures à dénicher, vu le nombre de fois que je vous ai bassiné avec sur mon réseau social préféré (@camtyox pour les intimes). Pour la petite histoire, je me suis réveillée un matin avec une seule idée en tête: me procurer ces boots. Ni une, ni deux (et un trajet d'Eurostar plus tard) me voilà dans la boutique Isabel Marant la plus proche. Sauf que voilà, difficile que je suis, une fois face à la bête en chair et en os je ne sens pas mon coeur battre. Et pour cause les nouveaux coloris qui ne me plaisent pas. Il faut croire que je dois être aussi persévérante que je ne le suis obsessionnelle et têtue, puisque les voilà: une paire toute neuve de Dickers taupe en taille 40 rescapée de la collection automne-hiver 2010. Un miracle. Ou le destin. Qu'importe, je les ai aux pieds et espère vivement que vous les aimez autant que moi, parce que vous risquez de les recroiser souvent ici!

Wrist swag

Every cloud has a silver lining -or neon lining. I guess one of the good things of not having an office job is being able to dress for no one else but yourself. And myself wants lots of colours to brighten up my now lonesome days. And I'm not just referring to my bright pink top that I chose to pair with this salmon leather skirt. Check out the spicy rainbow party happening on my wrist today. Kind of amazeballs. Kinda but not fully. Still want more more more arm fiesta. Bring on the crystals, the chains, the colours, the spikes! Totally want this party to go global!

Même le plus noir nuage à toujours sa frange d'or - ou sa frange néon en l’occurrence. L'un des points positifs de ne plus travailler dans un bureau c'est de pouvoir s'habiller pour soi et personne d'autre. Et bien moi a envie de porter des couleurs très vives pour illuminer mes journées nouvellement solitaires. Et je ne parle pas uniquement de mon top rose associé à cette jupe en cuir saumon. Regardez un peu la fête arc-en-ciel qui se passe sur mon bras aujourd'hui. Plutôt renversante non? Je remercie la pétillante Valentine pour le bon tuyau puisque je suis ravie de mes nouveaux bracelets UO, mais je veux plus plus plus! Plus encore de fiesta sur mon bras. En avant les cristaux, les piques, les maillons, les couleurs! Je veux que cette joyeuse fête prenne une dimension mondiale!

The London diaries

The thought of having to leave London left me with such dread that I spent all week-end walking around in my adopted city, admiring and cherishing its uniqueness and beauty. As you will see below I wrote a very long article for my fellow Frenchmen so that they know where to go /eat/shop when next in the Capital, which I didn't translate as I'm sure you all know London much better than I ever will. You might however enjoy the collection of pictures below which don't do justice to London's majesticness, but show it through my humble eye. Hope you all had a lovely week-end. More tomorrow.

Tétanisée à l'idée de devoir quitter ma ville adoptive, je me suis dis qu'il était temps de vous faire un petit article bon plan pour que vous aussi puissiez profiter de Londres au maximum si jamais il vous venait à l'esprit de venir faire un tour de ce côté-ci de la Manche. Non pas que je sois une Londonienne accomplie. La ville est immense, puisqu'elle fait presque 15 fois Paris et contrairement à la plupart des capitales, n'est pas bâtie en hauteur: la plupart des londoniens vivent dans des maisons et ont même de (petits) jardins. Au point de vue architectural le vieil empire s'offre un re-lifting permanent, ce qui a pour effet de surprendre les parisiens, habitués à une ville planifiée, organisée, millimétrée. Les édifices jeunes et anciens cohabitent sans histoires, mixant les styles, les époques et les couleurs. L'urbanisme de Londres est comme la gastronomie du pays: un assortiment de plein d'ingrédients improbables. Mais attention, ce qui en cuisine peut se révéler tout à fait déplaisant ne vaut pas pour l'ossature de la ville. Surprenante, certes, mais captivante surtout. On ne sait pas où donner de la tête.

Pour ce qui est de la nourriture (justement), je sais que l'Angleterre à une sale réputation sur le plan culinaire. Heureusement, je peux vous proposer quelques adresses qui m'ont largement séduite - ouf l'honneur est sauf ! Tout d'abord il y a la chaîne Wagamama, un restaurant façon cantine, spécialisé dans les nouilles, servies entremêlées avec de nombreux ingrédients (calamars, crevettes, poulet, gingembre rose, épices, sésame, échalotes, poireaux, huile de sésame) et tout ceci dans des prix plus que raisonnables. Goutez au Chilli Ramen ou au Ginger Chicken Udon, vous serez de suite accros. J'ai aussi un très gros faible pour un tout petit resto viêt nommé Cây Tre situé sur Old Street. Le menu est aussi compliqué qu'il est délicieux, et je vous recommande vivement d'y aller à plusieurs et de commander avec un esprit tapas: 3 ou 4 entrés et 3 ou 4 plats à découvrir et partager. Ne manquez surtout pas le poisson-chat (catfish) caramélisé, vous m'en direz des nouvelles. Pour ceux qui veulent vraiment vivre une expérience anglaise, il faut aller dans un pub et demander un roast (le repas traditionnel du dimanche). On vous apportera une assiette avec de la viande rôtie, des pommes de terre au four, des yorkshire puddings (absolument délicieux ne vous inquiétez pas), des légumes et le tout baignant dans du jus épais de rôti. Enfin pour les plus gastronomes, allez savourez la délicieuse cuisine inventive (le menu change quotidiennement) dans mon restaurant préféré The Anchor and Hope (à côté de Waterloo). What else? Ah oui, si vous avez les moyens c'est vraiment génial d'aller prendre le "high tea" dans un des grands hôtels londonien. C'est assez cher pour le coup, mais on vous propose un e théière de thé, accompagnée par de nombreux petits sandwichs salés pour commencer (concombre etc..), puis on vous apporte de mini-desserts (mille feuilles, brownie, etc..) et enfin les fameux scones à déguster avec de la crème épaisse et de la confiture! Vous ne pourrez surement plus bouger d'un pouce après tout ça, mais si la nourriture de tous les jours n'est pas à nos standards français, vous serez ravis par le délice de ce (gros) goûter. Le tout dans un cadre de grand luxe, avec bien souvent un pianiste comme cerise sur le gâteau! (Personnellement j'ai déjà fait le Savoy et le Lanesborough).

Concernant le shopping, je sais que même celles qui n'ont jamais montré le bout de leur joli minois en Angleterre connaitront déjà les enseignes à ne pas manquer. Je ne vais donc pas passer deux heures à vanter les mérites de Topshop, Urban Outfitters, Primark, River Island et Kurt Geiger (même si soyons clairs, ils méritent tous un Oscar ou quelque chose pour récompenser leur génie), mais simplement vous révéler deux trois trucs à ne pas oublier. Tout d'abord, la plupart des magasins anglais proposent une réduction étudiante. Il suffit de montrer sa carte pour obtenir 10% sur ses achats, mais attention bien souvent les vendeurs ne le rappellent pas donc n'hésitez pas à demander une fois à la caisse. Ensuite, les promotions sont beaucoup plus fréquentes ici, donc toujours penser à faire un tour dans le rayon soldé. Enfin, j'ai récemment découvert avec une amie le département "personal shopping" au grand Topshop de Oxford Circus; Il faut bien évidemment réserver en avance, en précisant sa taille, son style et son budget, mais le jeu en vaut vraiment la chandelle! Arrivées sur place vous serez accueillies dans un espace VIP où votre styliste d'un jour aura séléctionné pour vous une multitude de vêtements et accessoires. Vous pourrez alors essayer toutes ces silhouettes dans votre cabine géante et aller faire un tour par vous même dans le magasin en laissant vos affaires bien au chaud. Pourquoi j'ai adoré? Parce que cela m'a permis d'être tranquille, et de profiter au maximum du magasin un samedi aprem à l'heure de pointe sans aucun stress puisque vous n'avez à faire la queue ni pour les cabines ni pour les caisses. Également parce que cela m'a "mis en danger" stylisement parlant puisque j'avais demandé à la nana de me surprendre, elle a donc choisi des vêtements que je n'aurais jamais attrapé moi même et j'ai été ravie du résultat. Enfin, et surtout, parce que c'est entièrement gratuit, il n'y a pas d'obligation d'achat, donc pourquoi se priver!!?

Body Frosting

Yesterday I broke my gorgeous cage necklace (seen here and here). I know I shouldn't be so upset, after all it is only cheap and nasty H&M, but to tell you the truth, I have come to rely on high-street stores to build up my jewellery collection. I don't know about you guys, but I am finding it impossible to invest in nice clothes, quality pumps, sassy underwear, flawless makeup products AND statement accessories all in the same breath. My budget just can't take the strain. I envy the girls who manage to cover all areas and still have money left over to eat, but the truth of the matter is, I'm just not there yet. So that's why a small loss like this causes such grief.

Anyway, I thought I might take the opportunity to ask you all where you find your adornments? Until I can afford Dannijo, Mezi and Pamela Love, my favourite places to go frost myself are the obvious H&M, Topshop and Urban Outfitters, but also Mango, which has a surprisingly beautiful handmade collection of necklaces and bracelets. I have also loved the Kurt Geiger’s Everything But the Dress range and can’t wait to see what they have in store for spring. The other thing I die for is the new trend for rainbow arm swag like this but I haven’t figured out where to find neon/studded/bejewelled friendship bracelets yet. So come on now, spill the beans. Tell me all your dirty secrets. Where does your bedazzle come from?

Voilà, hier j’ai cassé mon magnifique collier cage doré (vu ici et là), et je suis très triste. Je sais que les créations cheap d’H&M ne méritent pas tellement un deuil, mais pour tout vous dire, depuis quelques temps je dépends entièrement de ce genre d’enseigne pour consolider ma maigre collection de bijoux. Je ne sais pas pour vous, mais je ne sais plus où donner de la tête : impossible d’investir à la fois dans de jolis vêtements, des pompes qui tuent, de la lingerie fine, du maquillage bio et des accessoires impeccables. J’envie réellement les filles qui arrivent à couvrir tous ces domaines, mais personnellement je dois prioriser, sans quoi je mourrais de faim ! Voilà pourquoi une si petite perte est synonyme de grand malheur.

Bref, je me suis donc dis qu’aujourd’hui était l’occasion parfaite pour vous demander où vous trouvez vos ornements corporels. Pour ma part, en attendant de pouvoir me payer du Dannijo, Mezi ou encore Pamela Love, mes sponsors favoris sont bien évidemment H&M, Topshop et Urban Outfitters, mais aussi Mango qui étonnement a une merveilleuse collection de colliers et bracelets fait main. J’ai également adoré la gamme « Everything but the Dress » proposée par Kurt Geiger cette saison, et suis impatiente de découvrir leur sélection estivale. Par ailleurs, j’ai un gros faible pour la nouvelle tendance "mon poignet est un arc-en-ciel" (vu ici entre autre), mais je ne sais pas encore où trouver des bracelets brésiliens flashy/cloutés/cristallisés. Allez, à votre tour de vendre la mèche. Je veux tous vos secrets. Ou allez vous pour vous embijouter?

I remember reading a post by Garance Doré saying that wearing a hat is like walking down the street with a puppy: everybody stops to look and talk to you about it. Well all I can say is try wearing a cape, a fedora and shoes that look like slippers all at the same time. Everyone had something to say about the outfit, be it a spiteful remark or a charming compliment. So, I'm curious now, what would you have stopped to said?

On a side note I'm sure you will all have noticed how beautiful these pictures are. That is because they were taken by my new friend the talented Caroline; she really knows how to take a stunning photograph! Swing by her blog and just see for yourself.

Je me rappelle d'un article de Garance Doré où elle écrivait que porter un chapeau c'était comme se balader dans la rue avec un chiot: tout le monde s'arrête pour vous parler. Et bien je vous mets au défi de sortir avec sur le dos une cape, sur la tête un fedora, et aux pieds des souliers cloutés ressemblant à des chaussons! Tout le monde y trouve son mot à dire, et j'ai eu droit à tout, des réflexions les plus désobligeantes aux compliments les plus élogieux. She Came in Through the Bathroom Window

She is the cat's mother... and she didnt come in through the bathroom window, more like in the Eurostar. And, well yes, she is me. But hey who am I to question the Beatles. So, here it is, last week-end in Paris I got together with a couple of Parisian friends: Valentine, Margot, Anais and Juliette. Because I don't come to Paris that often we decided to organise a fun blogger event playing on the idea of Britain (i.e. me) coming to France. The challenge was to bring an English wardrobe staple and integrate it to our French lives. Thus the guest of honour was the British wellie who was happy to leave behind festival fields and London puddles to come dance around Paris for a change. However, in order for it not to get too homesick , we managed to find the most English of all Parisian streets: rue Crémieux. This charmingly colourful lane in the 12th arrondissement, which wouldn't look out of place in our very own Notting Hill, was the perfect host for this playful afternoon, and we all went home knowing where we would move as soon as we win the Lottery. And in case you were wondering, that is the mini multicoloured sequin skirt I was going on about on NYE which finally got a chance to shine!

Elle est entrée par la fenêtre de la salle de bain. Ou plutôt elle est arrivée en Eurostar. Et oui, elle c'est moi. Mais je ne suis personne pour remettre en question les paroles des Beatles après tout. Bref comme vous le savez, je suis venue passer le week-end à Paris il y a une semaine et j'en ai profité pour passer du temps avec des amies parisiennes que vous connaissez toutes surement: Valentine, Margot, Anais et Juliette. Comme cela n'arrive pas tous les jours nous en avons profité pour organiser un petit shooting entre blogueuses (je dis bien blogueuse et pas blogueuse mode, n'est ce pas, car Juliette notre petite pâtissière en herbe s'est aussi prêtée au jeu). Le challenge était d’intégrer une pièce forte et très portée de l'autre coté de la Manche à nos dressing de françaises. C'est donc la botte de pluie, "the wellie" comme la dénomme mes compatriotes angliches, qui a été élue vedette de la journée. Mais ne voulant pas qu'elle attrape le mal du pays, les filles ont sagement choisi une rue qui n'est pas sans rappeler le quartier de Notting Hill. Ainsi, c'est au coeur d'un décors coloré et faussement londonien que nous avons passé une joyeuse après-midi à s'enjailler sous l'objectif de notre photographe, la jolie Camille Marciano, elle aussi venue de (beaucoup plus) loin (elle habite au Canada la veinarde). Et je ne vous cache pas que nous sommes toutes rentrées chez nous en sachant exactement oú l'on emménagerait dès que notre billet d'Euromillion sortira gagnant.

Et oui, pour celles qui se posent la question, c'est bien la mini jupe à sequins multicolores dont je vous parlais au réveillon qui a enfin eu son instant de gloire!

Sequel

Sequels are never as good as the orginal tale. That is what we are told anyway. And I guess in moving pictures world this may very well be true. I mean can you name a single spin-off that was better than its inspired hit? Apart from the Toy 2 Story that is (and Toy Story 3 for that matter). And no not Lord of theRings, trilogies don't count here. There, told you so. Sequels are never as good as the original tale. They are even often so bad that they ruin the name of the original movie. But wait a minute, how is it then that my heart that swooned for the original black Topshop psychic boots, completely missed a beat when their sequel, suede taupe Psychic2, hit stores? They stole the show and my money all in the same breath. And once again the Fashion cosmos proves it likes to set its own rules, and that is probably what I love most about it!

Une création originale vaut toujours mieux qu'une suite réchauffée... C'est du moins ce que l'on nous repete. Et dans le monde de la toile il se peut réellement que ceci soit vrai. Arriveriez-vous seulement a me citer ne serait-ce qu'une suite qui soit à la hauteur de son oeuvre original? Bon mis a part Toy Story 2 (et 3) bien sur. Et non, pas le Seigneur des Anneaux, les trilogies ne marchent pas ici. C'est bien ce que je pensais. Une création originale vaut toujours mieux qu'une suite réchauffée. Mais alors, comment se fasse t-il que mon coeur, qui s'etait deja laissé envouter par les boots noires Psychic2 Topshop, n'ait fait qu'un seul bon et ait eu le coup de foudre immediat pour leur petite soeur, les boots en daim taupe denommées Psychic2? J'aurais aimé dire qu'elles sont l'exception qui confirme la regle, mais je crois que dans le monde de la Mode il n'y a tout simplement pas de regles, et ça, moi j'adore!

Bare-legged

Yes, your eyes are not deceiving you, you are not imagining things, I - who complain of the cold day in and day out, I - the cold blooded lizard who needs a daily sun bath just to be able to function - left the house bare legged this morning after having cought a glimpse of sunshine out the window. In January. I still can't quite believe it myself actually.

This bold fashion move has made me realise two things: one my pale legs are long overdue a trip to warmer lands. My Thailand adventures forecasted for February cannot come fast enough; and two, maybe I finally am starting to become more English after all. I mean who else but a Brit would step out into the winter air without any clothes on? You tell me.

Et non, vous n’êtes absolument pas en train de rêver, moi - qui passe mon temps à me plaindre du froid, moi - le lézard au sang froid qui à besoin d'un bain de soleil permanent pour pouvoir fonctionner au quotidien, moi, Camille, ai quitté la maison ce matin jambes nues après avoir aperçu un rayon de soleil par la fenêtre. Au mois de janvier. Je n'arrive pas tellement à y croire moi même.

Cette initiative audacieuse m'a ouvert les yeux sur deux choses: Premièrement, mes jambes palotes ont vraiment besoin de faire un tour dans un pays chaud. Vivement mon aventure thaïlandaise en février! Et deuxièmement, je suis peut-être devenue plus British que je ne le croyais. Je veux dire, qui d'autre qu'un anglais affronterait le froid hivernal sans vêtements, dites le moi?

As I was telling you a couple of days ago, I spent the week end in Paris last week-end. My Parisian blogger friends and I met up for a fun photo shoot in a charmingly colourful Street: la Rue Cremieux in the 12th arrondissement. I don't know if you have ever been to Paris, but when you will see what the street looks like I'm sure you will agree it has quite a British feel to it. Off to catch my Eurostar as I'm spending the week-end at home in Paris! You should see my suitcase: it's larger than life itself, but no need to start the teasing because its actually half empty. I like to keep a lot of room for the many things I inevitably decide to bring back to London after a couple of days in my homeland. Believe me, even when I only spend a couple of days there, it often amounts to a lot. I confess it almost invariably consists of a whole lot of French food! What can I say, I'm a true frog! En fait, j'aime garder BEAUCOUP de place pour les nombreuses choses que je rapporte ensuite à Londres. Même après quelques jours seulement passés dans l'Hexagone, le butin est souvent conséquent. Laid-back refinement

So I don’t know if you guys have been paying attention, but it seems like sportswear has grown sick of only seeing our sweaty self, and decided to come and play with the big boys. And Fashion with a capital F has agreed to play along. The game started off innocently enough with caps making their entrance on the catwalks, and then suddenly sneakers – yes sneakers, the same that you would wear to the gym, were being paired with silk pants and pencil skirts. Now maybe you think this is going too far, and you could be right. After all, do we really want the all-American look (you know, the vile combination of a perfectly nice suit and a pair of white trainers) to takeover our lives? I should think not. But after seeing Sabrina from After Drk's laid back refinement last week, I have decided that I too will be jumping on the sportswear bandwagon and investing in a pair of New Balance sneakers. In the meantime this is my own take on casual sport-chic with what I could recycle from my wardrobe. Let me know if you love or hate.

Donc je sais pas si vous avez remarqué, mais il semblerait que le sportswear en a marre de ne voir que notre alter ego suant, et a décidé de faire son entrée dans la cour des grands. Et grande surprise cette saison puisque la Mode avec un grand M, son ennemi de longue date, accepte de jouer avec lui. Le jeu commence assez innocemment avec l'arrivée des casquettes sur les catwalks, puis sans crier gare ce sont les baskets (oui, comme celles que vous portez pour votre footing) qui apparaissent aux pieds de silhouettes toutes de soie vêtues. Alors peut être que vous allez me dire que trop c'est trop, et vous auriez surement raison. Apres tout, hors de question que l'on intègre à nos vies le look américain (si si vous savez, l'effroyable concept de porter un costume bien comme il faut avec des sneakers blanches). Je ne crois pas non. Mais après avoir aperçu la jolie Sabrina du blog After Drk réinventer le décontracté je me suis dis qu'il fallait absolument que je me joigne au mouvement et que je m’achète une paire de New Balance. En attendant de sauter le pas, voici ma propre version du sporstwear chic. A vous de me dire si vous détestez ou adorez!

Neon twist

The Marant-like jeans are back with a twist: this bright neon chunky knit scarf that I picked up in the Cos sale last week. I find it morose to wear all black during the day so always try to add a touch of colour, but this is more like a blast of fire. I certainly didn't go unnoticed in the street today. A head turning equation to say the least.

Mes jeans Marant-esques sont de retour avec un rebondissement à la clé: cette écharpe néon attrapée chez COS pendant les soldes la semaine dernière. Je trouve cela vraiment trop morose de ne porter que du noir pendant la journée, donc j'essaye toujours d'ajouter un brin de couleur, mais là c'est carrément une explosion écarlate. Je ne suis pas passée inaperçue c'est le moins qu'on puisse dire. Une équation qui fait tourner les têtes, à consommer sans modération les jours de grisaille!

Gloom

It seems as I got dressed this morning that I failed to register that gail force winds were blowing London upside down today. When I realised my mistake it was of course too late to change into something sensible and I vowed to myself that I would stay inside all day. But a brief break in the clouds has enabled me to run get some lunch. Even managed to snap a few outfit pics on the way. The quality of the shots reflects the atmosphere outside: gloomy, dark and depressing. Hope tomorrow is nicer: the light does not show off these cute leather aubergine shorts to their full, and they are now sulking because they know it!

Quand je me suis habillée ce matin je n'ai clairement pas regardé par la fenêtre, puisqu'une tempête souffle dans tous les sens aujourd'hui dans Londres, et je ne pense pas être suffisamment équipée pour lui rire au nez (j'aime rire au nez des tempêtes en règle générale). Ayant constatée mon erreur, je me suis promise de rester bien au chaud toute la journée. Heureusement pour moi (et mon petit ventre qui criait famine) le soleil a su pointer le bout de son nez pour une durée record de 3 minutes 30 ce qui m'a permis de courir chercher à manger et d'en profiter pour prendre quelques clichés de ma tenue. Je trouve que ceux-ci reflètent parfaitement l’atmosphère ici: sombre, lugubre et déprimante. Ce qui est dommage parce que je trouve que cela ne permet pas de mettre en valeur mon petit short en cuir bordeaux, qui du coup boude maintenant.

If someone came up to me this minute saying this is your lucky day, pick your favourite outfit from one of your fellow (more stylish) fashion bloggers for your NYE wardrobe, I would go for the Man Repeller Leandra's take on sequins. I think we can all agree that sequins will be big this evening. So big in fact that I bet all our NYE party's are just going to be a giant sparkly blur. Why would I go for these Calypso harem pants then if I want to stand out from the crowd? Well because as Leandra so wisely/cynically puts it, they are the perfect 'man repeller' on a night when the whole city will be squeezing into the skimpiest outfit they can possibly get their hands on. Paired with the soft T by Alexander Wang pullover, simple but pleasing blazer and the coolest shoes spotted for miles around (who wouldn't want to step into the new year wearing Valentino) I would definitely feel like the belle of the ball (even though any second glasses I get would be quizzical rather than lustful). But since it's too late to order all this stuff (yes, all the relevant tabs are currently open on my laptop) as Shopbop delivery lorries have not mastered the speed of Santa Claus and his reindeer yet, and also because my parents/banker would kill me, I am just going to have to look for something in my own wardrobe. I just hope I have enough will power to avoid picking my shortest skimpiest sequinned skirt (yes I own such a garment and it has been desperately vying for my attention all day). Si là tout de suite quelqu'un s'approchait de moi en me disant: aujourd'hui est ton jour de chance, tu peux choisir n'importe quel look parmi ceux de tes consœurs blogueuses pour ta tenue de réveillon, j'opterai sans hésiter pour la déclinaison sequins version harem pants proposée par Leandra du blog The Man Repeller. Je pense que l'on peut toutes s'accorder pour dire que l'on va en voir partout des sequins ce soir. Tellement partout que je parie que nos soirées de réveillon ne seront qu'immense flou scintillant. Pourquoi alors jeter mon dévolu sur cette tenue si je souhaite sortir du lot? Tout simplement parce que comme l'écrit si bien Leandra, ces harem pants Calypso sont les parfaits 'repousseurs d'homme' ('man repeller'),autrement dit une tenue anti-sexe que les hommes ne peuvent pas s'expliquer. D'autant plus que ce soir à Londres les filles s'acharneront à enfiler l'accoutrement le plus court de leur garde robe. Assemblé avec ce doux pull T by Alexander Wang, ce simplisme mais plaisant blazer Alexander Wang et aux pieds les chaussures les plus incroyables à des kilomètres a la ronde (qui après tout n'aurait pas envie de déambuler vers 2012 en Valentino?), je me sentirais vraiment la reine du bal (même si les seuls regards indiscrets qui m'auraient été accordés auraient été perplexes, voire narquois, sans une once de concupiscence). Mais comme il est trop tard pour commander toutes ces jolies choses (oui oui, tous les onglets pour sont ouverts en ce moment même) et que mes parents/banquier m'auraient tués de toute façon si je l'avais fait, je vais devoir aller me glisser dans quelque chose déniché au fond de ma propre garde robe. J'espere avoir suffisamment de volonté pour ne pas choisir ma micro jupe en sequins multicolores (eh oui je possède un tel vêtement et il me fait de l'œil depuis ce matin). Day two

So today I'm gonna talk about something that really is a major issue in my life. Don't laugh.

*Drum roll*

Should I really be washing my hair everyday?

I said don't laugh!

Basically my hair is naturally stick straight which of course I don't like (the grass is always greener - gable gable gable), so I try and mess it up to give it a kinda effortlessness tousled look if you will (big failure on most day but hey at least I try). The thing is that on Day 1 (the day on which I wash it) it is impossible to mess up: no matter how much I ruffle and tumble, it always end up looking sleek again. Hence why I always used to prefer day 2 (the day AFTER I wash it) because the hair is not so slippery, and therefore willing to do more than just hang there like curtains.

HOWEVER, ever since I have had my hair highlighted (another major mistake if you ask me) even though on Day2 I can theoretically tease it into cooler less polished does, the colour freeeaaaaaaaaks me out. The highlighted locks stand out like a sore thumb and definitely look orangey/yellow. In a desperate effort to avoid stepping out in the street looking like Taylor Momsen (this is only a slight exageration) I have been washing my hair daily. The result is that it feels dryer and dryer, and I am at a loss about what to do about it. So why don't all you gorgeous highlighted babes with your silky mermaid-like tumbling locks, come to my aid and reveal all your secrets!

PS: In case you are wondering, that is a funky iphone case , not me just randomly gazing deeply at an old K-7. Oh and hope you like the new Ferragamos (am planning on doing an Alexa Chung this summer with tiny denim shorts and cute cardies)

Aujourd'hui je vais vous parler d'un des problèmes existentiels de ma vie. Ne rigolez pas hein.

*Roulement de tambour*

Est ce vraiment raisonnable que je me lave les cheveux tous les jours?

J'ai dit on ne rigole pas!

Commençons par le commencement: mes cheveux sont naturellement raides comme des baguettes, ce qui bien évidemment ne me convient pas (l'herbe est toujours plus verte ailleurs, n'est ce pas?). Donc j'essaye d'y mettre un peu la pagaille pour obtenir un effet coiffé-décoiffé. Mais concrètement rien n'y fait pendant le Jour 1 (jour du lavage), puisque quoique je fasse ils finissent toujours pas se ranger bien sagement à mon plus grand désarroi, puisque je déteste avoir les cheveux plats. Ce qui explique pourquoi j'ai toujours préféré le Jour 2 (Jour après lavage) puisqu'ils sont plus maniables et acceptent sans rechigner de se laisser déranger.

Sauf que malheur et sacrilège, depuis que je me suis fait des mèches (ó grande erreur), mes cheveux deviennent jaunes bizarres au Jour 2, et la couleur me fait vraiment flipper! Du coup j'en viens à me laver les cheveux tous les jours pour ne pas ressembler a Taylor Momsen (bon ok j'exagere un peu, mais en gros c'est un peu çà). Le résultat est que ma pauvre tignasse s’assèche de jour en jour sans que je ne sache quoi faire pour lui laisser quelque répit. Je me tourne donc vers toi belle blonde décolorée, ou toi sirène aux cheveux longs et soyeux: quels secrets pour soigner ma crinière en mal d'amour?

PS: Pour éviter tout malentendu, c'est un protège iphone funky, et non pas une vieille cassette audio que j'admire intensément que vous voyez la. Et j'espere que vous aimez mes nouvelles Ferragamo (je compte faire ma Alexa Chung cet été et ne porter que des shorts minuscules avec des gilets girly).

I find it excessively hard to pick jewellery, and most of all rings. But when I came across this delicate silver knot ring born from the inspired artistic collaboration between Sincerely Jules & Gabriela Artigas I immediately fell in love. The classic infinity symbol works works so well here because of the unusual size of the ring, which means it casually sits on my first knuckle. And as you can see, I could't have dreamed of a more charming parcel. Way to make a girl feel special Jules! Thank you so much, and I very much hope you have more capsule collections in store for 2012.

J'ai beaucoup de mal à acheter des bijoux, en particulier je n'arrive jamais à trouver de bagues qui me plaisent. Mais quand je suis tombée sur cette ravissante bague noeud, fruit d'une collaboration éphémère entre Sincerely Jules & Gabriela Artigas ce fut le coup de foudre. Le signe infini habituellement si traditionnel fonctionne parfaitement ici grâce à la taille singulière de la bague, qui se porte ainsi sur la moitié supérieure du doigt. Et comme vous pouvez le constater, je n'aurais pas pu rêver d'un packaging plus charmant. Je suis complètement conquise! I am trully amazed and overwhelmed at how many of you responded and empathised with my story about being given hell for being a fashion blogger. Your kind words meant so much. From all the comments I got it is clear that a large amount of girls don't even reveal their online self to friends and family. In my case I made the mistake of telling a couple of people in order to get help with the photogography and it all spiralled downwards from there. I have actually often thought about changing the name of my blog, but this place would't feel the same if it wasn't my alternate life over the rainbow. Anyway thanks so much for having taken the time to share (the article is here if you havn't seen it yet) and let's hope this doesn't dampen my mood anymore. Well I have just raided the Zara sale, so it can't really.

Je suis réellement touchée et émerveillée par tout le soutien et l'empathie reçus suite à mon témoignage des difficultés que je rencontre en tant que blogueuse mode. Vos mots m'ont vraiment fait chaud au coeur et m'ont permis d’établir que plus d'une souffrait de la même"discrimination". Beaucoup d'autres ont clairement fait le choix de ne pas révéler à leur entourage leur existence virtuelle. Pour ma part, j'ai fait l'erreur de partager mon blog au tout début, souhaitant notamment obtenir de l'aide pour la photographie. Depuis j'ai hésité à maintes reprises à modifier son nom, afin que mes proches ne puissent pas le retrouver, mais ce lieu ne serait pas authentique s'il ne se passait pas dans mon univers parallèle, over the rainbow. Stick and stones may break your bones, but words make your heart bleed

Christmas is about eating, drinking, singing and giving. But above all Christmas is about family. Even more so for those of us living overseas and who seldom get to see our loved ones. I always cherish these moments, and try to appreciate every instant. However, I think most of you will agree that no matter how much we all love our families, such gatherings are often also synonymous with drama. And this year unfortunately I found myself to be in the line of fire. I thought I would share because perhaps I am not the only one in this situation.

To cut a long story short, my uncle was asking me how I was getting along with my job since the daughter of one of his old friends was coming over from New Zealand, and he thought that perhaps I could help her out since she too read law at university. From then on the conversation went more or less like this:
Him: "I visited your blog hoping to find out more about what kind of law your are specialise in, but I found nothing of any help, and I couldn't very well give her the address anyway, because I don't want to advertise the fact that my niece is an air-brain".
Me: *nervous lough* "hahaha of course hum hum".

They say that sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me. In this case, however, I don't think words could have hurt much more if they were made of sticks and stones. On the other hand, I am more than used to little attacks like this. Now maybe I should have stood up for myself, but believe me I have, many times in fact ,and the result is always the same: me feeling extremely hurt after realising the pinnacle of self-involvement that I inadvertently project all around.

Nobody in my immediate entourage neither understands nor really approves of my little online enterprise. Each day is a constant battle to get people to accept that it is not because I adore fashion that I am shallow/superficial/narcissistic/the devil. I actually even know a couple of well established bloggers who keep their cyber-identity secret from their parents and "real" mates. to avoid unwanted criticism. Now I get why someone exterior to the blogosphere (boy do I hate that neologism) will be less likely to understand the intended purpose of our ego-blogging initiatives, but I cannot comprehend why these Fashion atheists can't just live and let live.

Fashion with a capital F has -and always will have - a bad reputation. It is considered by many as utterly frivolous, and even sinful. An unworthy interest. A testimony to how people's priorities are now upside down. But I think it is easy to point the finger. Maybe I shouldn't be spending so much money on a pair of shoes, but I don't see you giving away every extra penny you earn to charity. Everyone has guilty pleasures. It just so happens that mine is like a second skin, and sure impossible to hide. And thank god, I do also have other interests. But I think it is sad that I am made to feel ashamed for daring to proclaim out loud my love for all things leathery, sparkly and silky (and all the others ...y's).

I was just wondering what your experiences are regarding this issue. Do your friends and family give you grief for having sold your soul to Anna Wintour (or for knowing that you would if you could)? Or are they accepting and even maybe supportive of your passion for Fashion? Let me know I am really keen to talk about this.

Fêter Noël sans manger, boire et offrir serait sans doute dommage; mais fêter Noël sans passer du temps en famille n'aurait vraiment aucun sens. Ceci est d'autant plus vrai pour ceux et celles comme moi qui vivent loin des leurs et n'ont ainsi pas l'occasion de profiter d'eux au quotidien. J'essaye vraiment de chérir ces moments là, et d'en apprécier chaque instant. Toujours est-il, et je pense que beaucoup seront d'accord avec moi, que les réunions de famille sont malheureusement souvent synonymes d'altercations en tout genre. Si j'en parle aujourd'hui c'est parce cette année je me suis malencontreusement trouvée dans la ligne de mire, et je me demandais si certaines d'entre vous subissaient les mêmes difficultés.

Pour vous la faire courte, je discutais avec mon oncle qui me demandais des nouvelles de ma vie professionnelle car la fille d'un vieil ami néo-zélandais à lui a pour projet de venir s'installer à Londres, et il se demandait si je pouvais peut-être lui faire part de mes expériences ici, d'autant plus qu'elle aussi a étudié le droit. La conversation a dès lors pris la tournure suivante:

Lui: « donc je suis allé sur ton blog pour voir si je pouvais y récolter quelques informations sur le domaine de droit dans lequel tu es spécialisée, mais évidemment je n'y ai rien trouvé d'intéressant, et puis de toute façon je ne pouvais pas réellement lui transmettre l'adresse sans quoi elle aurait pensé que ma nièce est une écervelée.

Moi: *rire nerveux* « haha oui effectivement hum hum ».

En anglais il se dit souvent sticks and stones may break my bones but words can never hurt me. (aparté: selon Google l'équivalent frenchie serait la bave du crapaud n'atteint pas la blanche colombe sauf que premièrement cela sonne faux dans ce contexte, et deuxièmement, à mon avis la blanche colombe ne serait pas enchantée si le crapaud lui bavait dessus). Bref, revenons a nos moutons, pour celles qui ne saisirait pas le sens, cette expression signifie littéralement que les bâtons et les cailloux peuvent nous briser les os, mais les mots ne peuvent causer aucun mal. Je peux vous assurer que ses mots n'auraient pas pu me faire plus mal s'ils avaient été bâtons et cailloux. Il n'empêche que je suis de plus en plus habituée à recevoir de telles réflexions piquantes. Peut-être que j'aurais dû me défendre, mais je l'ai suffisamment fait par le passé, et ce toujours pour arriver au même résultat: un profond sentiment de douleur suite au constat récurrent que l'image que je renvoie de moi n'est autre qu'obsession de soi.

Personne dans mon entourage ne comprend véritablement mon projet virtuel. Je dois me battre jour après jour pour faire accepter que ce n'est pas parce que je suis passionnée par tout ce qui touche de près ou de loin à la mode que cela signifie pour autant que je suis superficielle/narcissique/ignorante/le diable. Je connais d'ailleurs certaines blogueuses réputées qui gardent leur cyber-identité secrète à labris des critiques parentales et amicales. Il me paraît tout à fait naturel que les personnes extérieures à la blogosphère (que je déteste ce néologisme!) ne comprennent pas nécessairement le but de notre démarche, mais je ne conçois pas pourquoi ces athées de la Mode ne nous laissent pas vivre.

Il est vrai que la Mode avec un grand M a – et aura probablement toujours – une sale réputation. Beaucoup considèrent la Mode comme une futilité, voire pire, le véritable péché originel du XIXe siècle. Indigne d'intérêt. La preuve concrète que le sens des priorités dans notre société est tordu. Alors certes, ce n'est peut-être pas très malin de dépenser autant (ou de rêver de dépenser autant) dans une paire de chaussures, mais je ne vous vois pas vous les donneurs de leçon faire don de tout ce qu'il reste de votre salaire à une association. Tout le monde a un péché mignon. Il se trouve que le mien est comme une seconde peau, très dur à camoufler. Et puis heureusement, la Mode n'est pas la seule chose qui m'intéresse Dieu merci. Mais je trouve ca dommage que je sois obligée d'avoir honte d'avoir envie de proclamer et partager mon amour pour le cuir, la soie et le coton.

Tout ça pour dire que j'aimerais beaucoup avoir vos retours, vos expériences et vos vécus par rapport a vos blogs et/ou votre passion pour la Mode. Vos familles et amis sont-ils du genre à vous mener la vie dure parce que vous avez vendu votre âme à Anna Wintour? Ou sont-ils compréhensifs et qui sait, peut être même enthousiastes face à votre « passion for fashion ». Je suis vraiment curieuse.

Merry Christmas to you all my lovely readers. Wherever you are in the world I hope you have had plenty of food, family fun and enough festive cheer to last until next year. My very large family and I had a marvelous day filled with musical crackers, present unwrapping, carol singing, and juicy turkey eating. I will definitely miss Christmas lights sparkling around the City but on a the bright side, days are getting longer again. So, not gonna chat much today because blogger is acting up and I want to figure out what's wrong before my whole blog gets messed up.

I was telling you yesterday that I can wear more or less what I want to the office. It is only true to a certain extent. These boyfriend jeans for example are for week-end use only, even though I think that they look pretty feminine once dressed up with a cute collar and pumps. Have started using my polaroid bought last sunday, and good news it works!!! I love waiting for the colors to appear slowly but surely on the small canvas, although it's quite stressful when I mess it up since the cost per shot is very high. Have a lovely week end everyone.

This is, in a nutshell, my ideal office outfit - if only I could afford it! I've been dying for some nude pumps for ages, but haven't found a reason to justify such an extravagance yet (you may wonder why I consider nude pumps to be an extravagance - I can't quite explain it, something to do with looking very grown up maybe). The star jumper adds a breath of fresh (night) air to the whole look, and layered on top of the clean cut silk blouse and pants, adds just the right amount of coolness to keep the outfit real.

I have always liked the idea of having a proper divide between office and casual wear, but have never really managed to translate this fantasy to my world. I end up dressing the same whether it is for work, going out or chilling around the house (true story and yes, my office is THAT casual). How about you guys, do you dress the same over the week-end as you would in the office? Or is there a clear divide in your life between play and work?

Isa-like individuality

The girl who is individual is the one everyone wants to talk to. I have been contemplating this indubitable idea all morning (fashion philosophical musings are a daily burden for my soul) (only joking, I just couldn’t be bothered with the ever depressing news this morning). Individuality is something that all respectable trend setters strive to offer, yet the concept seems to clash with the ‘it’ doctrine instated by the fashion world.

The ‘it’ doctrine, if you will, is the list of indispensable items that anyone who calls themselves a fahionista will be adding to their wardrobe after said item is spotted on every celebrity in town and/or listed by every magazine as a season must-have. Think MiuMiu glitter ankle boots, Celine Boston Luggage Tote (guilty Your Honour), or YSL arty ring (once again, guilty as sin). We’ve all been there. Yet don’t we all get upset when we turn up to a party only to discover our dress being shown off at the other end of the room by another invitee’s (hot) body. Equally, don’t we hate it when every girl we pass on the street is carrying our favourite new bag (Zara tote anyone?)?.

This individuality quest is also in complete contradiction with ego blogging (you know, posting pictures of oneself everyday on the internet). The message of such an enterprise is clear: "I’m happy to share what I believe to be cool fashion pieces with anyone who is interested and is looking for inspiration". The invitation to imitate/replicate/caricature could not be more evident. Yet would I really want to walk into a room full of mini me’s? This is all purely theoretical of course. By no means am I claiming that I am a style muse. I’m merely daring to reflect on the paradox of the situation that we put ourselves into.

And let’s be honest, would we really buy that Aztec print knit from Topshop if Isabel Marant wasn’t going all ethnic on us on the runway? I believe our fashion sense is shaped by trends. Hopefully we all have enough individuality in us to make a trend our own. I would let you reflect on these profound words, but I have just realised that they are simply a rather long justification to my new Isabel Marant-like distressed jeans, who as much as I would like them to be edgy and cool, are just another ‘it’ wardrobe staple. Oh who cares, I think they rock!

Wondering off to work on a Monday morning and trying to fit all my essentials for the day in a small clutch is not an easy challenge, but this little snake print number is a nice touch to an otherwise sombre ensemble, and funnily enough despite lack of practicality, this morning fashion came first. And yes, in case you were wondering, there is a coat not far away that I managed to loose (for a couple of minutes) to show off my shoulder pad blazer. Instagram and other modern softwares sure are fun, but truly don't capture the magic of real instant capture. I just hope this vintage apparatus works, since I obviously couldn't test it out then and there. Off for brunch at the Modern Pantry in Farringdon looking quite preppy in my khaki duffel coat. It seems like winter is finally upon us: it is positively freezing in London. I bought myself the cutest faux fur hat which looks like it should belong to a Russian princess, not a French expat like myself, but I don't care, anything to layer on to keep cosy in the cold. Despite the fact that I am 24 and still don't - well didn't - own a pair of black heels (and you call yourself a woman they say!) I somehow didn't immediately snatch-up these gorgeous asymmetrical pumps when they hit the stores last season. After unsuccessfully harassing the salesgirls in an attempt to get them to confess as to whether the shoes would ever be returning to Zara's shelves, I finally stumbled across these on eBay. As the French would say l'honneur est sauf, I am a woman after all. It was worth the wait.

It all started when turtlenecks began popping up here and there on the runways last fall. Better known amongst the geeks - a black turtleneck was Steve Jobs uniform after all - than the trendsetters, no one seemed to pay much attention to the growing trend until Phoebe Philo sent turtleneck after turtleneck down the runway, each perfectly layered under a minimalist silhouette during the Celine FW2011 show. The queen of effortless chic had struck again. A new kind of sexy was born.

And the best part is that this confident and sophisticated look is inordinately simple to execute at home, not to mention totally comfy and wearable. Follow the golden rules (keep the silhouette neutral and solid - blacks and whites are key to achieve this seamless look, aim for tailored clean lines and don't over accessorise) and you will achieve the ultimate high-fashion less is more, without spending more than 10 bucks or so. ELLE is looking for a beauty intern, and I thought I may as well give it a go. The first stage of the application was a short essay on a brand that you admire. See my entry below and let me know what you think (or better yet, vote for me).

“It's not the strongest of the species that survives, nor the most intelligent. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change”. Although you wouldn't have caught Charles Darwin flicking through Elle on the deck of the Beagle, his insights into the world of nature seem to translate perfectly to the world of fashion. Indeed, in terms of evolutionary prowess one brand stands out to me as pre-eminent, the Mother of timeless style and elegance: Hermes.

To say that I admire the craftsmanship of the Hermes family would be an understatement. Their savoir faire has been passed down from generation to generation, and the name alone evokes an empire that generations and generations of men and women aspire to be a part of. A brown ribbon tied around an orange box. A horse and carriage. A colourful silk Carré. A hand-stitched leather bag. You might be forgiven for thinking that Hermes errs on the side of cautious conservatism, but you would be wrong. No other brand seems to have better understood how to evolve and adapt without losing any of the founding values set out in 1837. From dressing the horses of the 19th century elite, Hermes has turned its attention to people, be they President's wives, WAGs or anyone aspiring to timeless elegance. Classic and refined yes. Never unadventurous and still.

Nowadays, the holy grail of bags is unquestionably the Kelly. Urban myths whisper that to get your hands on one, there is a waiting list of five years, no matter what your name is. Yet this bag was designed in 1935. Does this mean it has remained unchanged all these years? Colours, fabrics, sizes... the bags has been invented and re-invented a thousand times.

In a world where products have become disposable, I feel it is important to turn to brands like Hermes who have been able to remain so desirable throughout the ages. No one would ever think of throwing away a vintage Birkin. Not least because it gets more beautiful with time, as leather is meant to. And it is this connection with the nobility of materials from which clothes and accessory can be fashioned that seems tome so important. Fashion has always been ephemeral. And today our clothes and accessories even more so. Gone are the days where one would buy one single beautiful item and live with it season after season. Beauty and style is essential (and almost a way of life it seems to me), but at the end of the day nothing is more important than to preserve the beauty of our planet. And in my eyes, paying a little more in return for long life and flawless style seems to be the way forward.

I did warn you, this vest is like a second skin. And once again I'm also sporting my new boots from ebay. I don't know why it took me so long to catch on about how utterly handy ebay could be when a desirable is sold out/outrageously expensive/last season. The only slight issue is that since I use ebay as an app on my iphone it feels more like a game. Kind of like spending monopoly money. Plus I get a little unnecessarily competitive during the last few minutes of a bid which has resulted in a few minor financial crises but all in all its been a positive addition to my life.

Of how I came to be a pirate

Something outrageous yet utterly incredible happened to me on Friday. I was walking down Conduit Street on my way to the tube to catch my monthly Eurostar home, lugging a gigantic suitcase, when out of the corner of my eye I spotted the Vivienne Westwood flagship store.

Now let me stress beforehand that I was neither particularly early for my train, nor could I really afford any of the shop's treasures. Had I the slightest inkling of what was about to happen, I would have walked passed without looking back (well maybe just a bit), but it just so happens that I had spent that particular afternoon ogling at Garance Doré's Pirate Boots. So I thought I would pop in, briefly, just to see if they looked as good in the flesh!

Well they did. They looked so good in fact that I had to try them on immediately. Ignoring my watch I asked to try them in the black and the light suede. The blacks came first, and although they were not the ones I was lusting after (my heart having already been lost to the suedes), I hurriedly kicked off my own little pixie boots and buckled up.

I gazed down at my feet and gasped … as my eyes met with a scene of devastation and carnage. Yes, you heard that right. Not dreamy insuppressible longing. Devastation. And Carnage.

I'm still not sure how it happened but my little finger was bleeding from the tiniest of paper cuts, and I had managed to get blood all over the soft untreated nude leather buckles. I glanced up in terror at the salesperson, who looked back at me and simply said: "that will be 395 pounds please”.

To this instant I still can't explain why I didn't just walk out. I mean I'm pretty sure a brand like Vivienne Westwood can absorb the costs of a single pair of damaged pirate boots (that or inform the next fashionista that the new collection is striving to look even more realistic - the fashion world after all has witnessed weirder things). I, on the other hand, am not going to be able to eat, and will be taking the bus for the rest of the month.

On the bright side, I did manage to negotiate a 10% discount. And on the blindingly dazzling bright side, I now own a pair of VW Pirate boots. In the wrong colour though. And slightly bloody. But you know, I think I will quickly come to terms with that. I hope I can get some pics up soon. Watch out though. Don’t get any silly ideas about going to try a pair on. You have been warned.

ps: If anyone knows to remove blood from leather, tips on a postcard please!

After winning over our shorts, skirts, trousers, sleaves and tops, Leather has struke again... and this time its going sexy all the way... I'm guessing that like me a few of you will be quite taken by this little number, though I'm not sure how many will be willing to give up silky comfort for soft leather. I'm putting my money on sexy. It always seems to win.
